If you’ve ever posted to CraigsList, or responded to a post, you know that CL protects posters by assigning an anonymous email forwarding address to you which expires after X days.  Wouldn’t it be cool if you could have the same type of thing for your phone?  Well, the folks at http://www.numbr.com/ have done just that.  The [...]

Bacon Brittle

December 17th, 2007 · No Comments

I love bacon.  Who doesn’t?  Recently I’ve been playing around with making candy when, of course, the idea of bacon candy came up.  After a little searching, I came across a couple of interesting sounding recipes.  When I have some extra time I’m gonna try and make some of these: Bacon Brittle #1 MAKES ABOUT [...]

Chocolate Menu

December 14th, 2007 · No Comments

Sam Mason, the former pastry chef at WD-50 has a new restuarant: TailorNYC (http://www.tailornyc.com/) at 525 Broome St in NYC which features a Chocolate tasting menu – which uses “molecular gastronomy” techiques to pair chocolate with items you wouldn’t normally think to pair together.  Sounds like a worthwhile place to try out.

This app has come in so handy it’s not funny.  I love taking photographs when I travel, but hate waiting around forever until the gaggle of tourists hanging out in front of my shot leave.  No more.  http://www.snapmania.com/info/en/trm/ Tourist Remover helps eliminate people, cars and misc moving objects from your photo.  Using 3 to 10 [...]

You as ART

December 13th, 2007 · No Comments

Over the past couple of years, companies have come up with lots of different uses for DNA.  National Geographic has their project mapping human migration and various geneaology sites will help track ancestors.  DNA 11 wants to help turn your DNA in art.  You send in a swab of cheek and DNA will send you a [...]

Ultimate gifts for the gearhead in your life who already has everything

December 13th, 2007 · No Comments

Somebody sent me this link for lamps made out of old crankshafts: http://www.campbelllevydesigns.com/index.html Some of the lamps they have are pretty cool, if only for the rarity of the crankshaft.  I wonder how many restorers out there are gnashing their teeth that the part they need was being made into a lamp.  I wonder if [...]

Custom Clothes

December 13th, 2007 · No Comments

I’ll admit it, I love my custom made suits, shoes and shirts.  It harkens back to an older time when everyone’s clothes were custom made and just fit right.  Off the rack clothes just don’t feel the same after you’ve worn custom made clothing.  For those of you who can’t make a yearly pilgrimage to Hong [...]

Bacon Porn

December 13th, 2007 · No Comments

As someone who has recently been attracted to the art of curing and smoking his own meat, I found this quote spot on: “Who, under any circumstances, is not rendered almost helpless by the tantalizing sound of bacon sizzling slowly in a skillet, by the taunting backwoods aroma that permeates the air, by the luscious [...]

Outlook Express in French

December 13th, 2007 · No Comments

I was writing a bunch of emails today and realized that spell check wasn’t working correctly.  After a little investigation, I found out that Microsoft Office 2007 doesn’t play nice with Outlook Express 6 – it installs english dictionaries that are not compatible and leave you with only the French one.  Read about it here: [...]
